Why Us?

As I watched the Republicans and Democrats verbally wrestle on various issues during the 2008 presidential elections, I was struck in the moment by a decision that had taken place 16 years prior. On July 9, 1992 in a land mark decision, Judge Thomas S. Kirk, a juvenile court judge in Orlando Florida, ruled that an 11-year-old boy had the legal right to sue for separation from his parents. The boy, being represented by his attorney, accused his parents of alleged abuse, abandonment and neglect. He was seeking an order for the legal relationship between him and his parents to be severed and to have complete Independence declared from both parents.

The boy at the time was living with a foster family and had finally experienced the love, peace, safety and protection every child needs. Watching Republicans and Democrats debate is akin to watching two parents in a messy divorce case pointing the finger of blame at each other as to why the marriage has ended up in a divorce court. While it‘s obvious to outsiders both parties share equal responsibility of the dissolution of the marriage, neither party through their own anger, irrationality, narcissistic and self righteous thinking, refuse to take any responsibility or to see their own bad judgments throughout the marriage, led to out of control spending, failure to make good on promises and commitments, lies and deceit and overall neglect of marriage duties, as the primary cause of the divorce.

As Republicans and Democrats continue to point fingers at each other, the American public has become like the neglected child in court listening to two self righteous parents and having to decide through the voting process, “Which one of these people will I pick to go and live with for the next 4 years”. Life Focus, while not seeking Independence from participating in the voting and legal process through this analogy, nor would we want our clients to ever abandon this God given American right, has become the attorney in the aforementioned analogy, seeking for our members better, pro-active, Independence and freedom from mental stagnancy and waiting. Seeking for our members to excel and take action of their futures NOW, without being stuck in what we call “the waiting room”. Just like any emergency room where occupants of various nationalities, colors, sizes and shapes all share one commonality, they are all nervously waiting for answers.

Americans have been placed in a political and financial waiting room, where stagnancy is the norm of each citizen waiting on Republicans, Democrats, the current President, the next President, Local governments, State governments, advocacy groups, civil rights leaders, non profits, synagogues, churches, priests, the minister and even God who has already given us the power to overcome, to shape our futures. Millions spend years in the waiting room, many die in the waiting room without ever finding their true Life Focus or coming to their full destiny.

The current population of the United States is just over 308 million people and the national debt is currently standing at just over 13.2 trillion dollars. This means each man; woman and child would owe 43,000 dollars! That’s per person and not per household! This does not include the debt of a record number of foreclosures, bankruptcies, personal debt, credit card debt and installment loans and higher taxes to Uncle Sam that seems to be endless that Americans are struggling to pay, while the average American savings account balance over the past 25 years has plummeted to less than 400 dollars per household! Governments, much like its citizens get in debt in the same manner; overspending, not budgeting, poor future projections as it relates to economics and growth, failure to balance its budget and save for emergencies, leading to drastic measures such as borrowing from other sources of government or raising taxes.All while each political party point the finger of blame at each other, the game of political party musical chairs for governmental seats continues with unfortunately the same results. Do we “wait” for the next party?
